Predator control in the Clinton catchments
From 22 September 2014, the Department of Conservation intend to apply cereal baits containing sodium
fluoroacetate (1080) over the following area of the Fiordland National Park to control rodents and possums
for the protection of forest ecosystems.
Description of the area
The treatment area is approximately 9000 hectares in size, encompassing the whole Clinton catchment
(including the North Branch and Neale Burn).
Method of control
Cereal baits containing the pesticide will be aerially distributed by helicopter over the operation area. The
baits are cylindrical pellets approximately two cm in diameter, dyed green and cinnamon-lured.
These pesticides are poisonous to humans and domestic animals.
DO NOT touch bait
WATCH CHILDREN at all times
DO NOT EAT animals from this area
DO NOT allow DOGS access to animal carcasses
Observe these rules whenever you see warning signs placed at the public access ways in the above areas.
Access will be restricted on the Milford Track in the operation area (Glade Wharf to Mackinnon Pass)
on the prefeed and toxic bait operation days.
For further information, call Lindsay Wilson at the Department of Conservation Te Anau Office,
(03) 249 0200 or visit the Fiordland National Park Visitor Centre (03) 249 7924.
A detailed map of treatment areas may be viewed at the Fiordland National Park Visitor Centre (open 8.30am
to 4.30pm Monday to Friday).
