Get out and about these school holidays!
in Milford Sound – take the challenge!
The Best of Milford Sightseeing Challenge celebrates the
beauty and diversity of Milford Sound during winter,
offering participants a splash of fun and a deeper
understanding of this magical world.
Beginning this month, the challenge encourages visitors
to experience the very best of Milford Sound – its wildlife,
landscape and moods during the winter season. Each section
showcases special sights and activities that are unique to the
Challenges include exploring pristine rivers and waterfalls,
spotting rare birds and marine life, learning about the region’s
history and appreciating Milford Sound’s dramatic, changeable
Challenge creator and general manager, Christine Wallace,
believes that winter is one of the best times to visit Milford
“There’s even more diversity and colour with snow on the
tops and plenty of clear, sunny winter days. Less people mean
a lot more peace and quiet – it’s one of the best places to
recharge the batteries,” she says.
The Best of Milford Sightseeing Challenge is all about fun,
and it’s aimed at both adults and children alike. The challenge
showcases the treasures along the road to Milford Sound and
within the Sound itself, many of which are hidden secrets.
Completing the challenge will be a great way to make one of
a kind, unforgettable memories in one of the country’s most
naturally rich locations.
“Milford Sound is located in one of New Zealand’s biggest
outdoor playgrounds – Fiordland National Park. The road
that leads to Milford Sound is a local best-kept secret,” says
Christine’s favourite challenge involves competitors being
asked to take a photo putting a bare foot into the chilly
“I think we’re going to get some really fun shots of that
one,” she says.
Once competitors have completed all of the eight required
activities, they are asked to send through photographic or
video evidence of each of the tasks in order to go into the
draw to receive a $1000 Visa Pressie Card. Alternatively,
uploading these images tagged with #MilfordChallenge is
another way to get into the running. Only guests of Milford
Sound Lodge may enter the draw.
The challenge is aimed at getting more people to come and
enjoy the area overnight at Milford Sound Lodge this winter.
There is a variety of cosy accommodation options, all set
among what could only be described as a hidden paradise.
Options include bed and breakfast in either riverside or
mountainview chalets, or selected campervan sites with
electricity supplied and of course stunning views of the valley.

competition, please visit the Best of Milford Sightseeing

Real Journeys is continuing its “Kids Go Free” promotion
these school holidays.
The promotion is becoming somewhat of a tradition with
the initial idea coming from Real Journeys founders, Olive and
Olive and Les wished as many New Zealand children as
possible to have the opportunity to experience some of the
country’s wilderness areas.
Initially the “Kids Go Free” promotion was just for the
TSS Earnslaw, but in keeping with the founders’ wishes, Real
Journeys has extended the offer across a range of products.
In Queenstown kids can jump on the TSS Earnslaw and
experience a farm show at Walter Peak where they get
to interact with the animals. In Te Anau they can venture
underground and visit the magical Glowworm Caves, which
are always a family favourite.
The stunning wilderness regions of Milford and Doubtful
Sounds are also included in this promotion where waterfalls
and wildlife are often experienced highlights.
