Walk, Bike or
Hype is building for the Winton Fun Run
The countdown is on with only six weeks to go until
the first ever Winton Fun Run.
Based at Cenntenial Park, in the heart of Winton,
this event plans to attract people of all different fitness
levels. Event organiser Julia Eade says participants
have the option to either bike, walk or run over a 3km,
5km or 10km distance, ensuring there is something for
“We have had great feedback already from the serious
runners and bikers to the families just keen to get out
and do something together.”
Fellow event organiser Alana Walker says a trophy has
been introduced as an incentive for local businesses
to come along and represent their business the best
“We have heard rumours a group is planning to tie
themselves together and another is dressing up in a
crazy get up – there should be a few laughs on the day.”
Businesses big or small will be judged on the day for
being the business that stands out the most.
Other prizes include a sports equipment package for
the school with the most pupils entered, there will be
prizes for the best times over the different distances
and many spot prizes throughout the day.
Entertainment will include a bouncy castle, astro ball,
live music from one of the best bands in Southland
and, of course, food to suit any appetite. With
entries expected in the hundreds, and many
supporters and families there to encourage from
the sidelines, there’s plenty to look forward to.
The Winton Fun Run comes at a great time to
motivate those who need something to strive for.
Statistics show that one in three of us include
increasing our health and fitness as a New Year’s
Consideration was put into setting a date that will give
people the time they need to train, organise a
team and also fits in well with pre-season
training and the athletics and harriers
It’s time to stick to that New
Year’s resolution and start
training if you haven’t
already done so. This
could be as simple as
walking that little bit
extra with your dog
or dusting off the
bike that sits in
just need that
little bit of extra
motivation – I
know I do!” says
be made from February at The Local or Winton’s Night
n’ Day at just $10 a single and $20 for a family.
Event organisers Julia and Alana are thrilled with the
great support already shown.
“It’s just so exciting getting positive feedback. Special
thanks to our sponsors, all local businesses, that have
come on board, all the local clubs that are showing so
much enthusiasm and just everyone we already see
out training. We are both local girls who are passionate
about health and fitness and are so looking forward to
a successful event this year and the years to come.”
The Winton Fun Run, to be held on Sunday 3rd
March, is a fundraising event. Proceeds this year are
going towards the development of the Winton Skate
Park. With the fun run planned to become an annual
event, many clubs, groups and the Winton community
as a whole, should benefit in the future.
